170 animals were destroyed at the Tangipahoa Parish animal shelter without much planning, warning nor explanation. The shelter blames a mysterious virus but some in the town believe there may have been other motives.

HAMMOND — When Besty Pittman walked into the Tangipahoa Parish Animal Shelter on Tuesday morning, she was struck by the silence.

The day before, on her day off, all of its scores of cats and dogs had been euthanized because of what parish officials described as an unknown, highly contagious, airborne virus.

“It was devastating,” Pittman said Wednesday evening. “There were no animals anywhere.”

After a sleepless night and many tears, Pittman, an euthanasia technician, said she turned in her resignation Wednesday over what she described as the senseless putting down of all 170 animals at the shelter.

Mystery deepens as fifth human foot washes up. Seems there has been an abundance of severed feet, all unclaimed.

A fifth human foot in a year has washed ashore off the coast of British Columbia, and this time it’s a left one.

Police said two people out for a walk spotted the left foot floating in water off Westham Island on Monday morning.

Delta Police Constable Sharlene Brooks said officials are working with the B.C. Coroner’s office to see if this foot is linked to any other partial remains recovered in the province.

Westham Island is at the mouth of the Fraser River, about 15 miles south of Vancouver.

“A passerby noticed a shoe floating in the water, pulled it in and notified police,” Brooks said. “We’re treating it as a criminal investigation.”

While the similarities to the other found feet is strong, she said there’s no indication this foot is related to the other cases.

“We’re certainly not discounting the possibility that this may be linked to the other recovered feet, but it’s just too premature and very speculative for us to even entertain that right now,” she said.

The last foot was found May 22 on Kirkland Island in the Fraser River, about one mile away from Monday’s discovery.

The first in the series was found nearly a year ago on Jedidiah Island in the Strait of Georgia. Within days, another right foot was found inside a man’s Reebok sneaker on nearby Gabriola Island. The third was found in the same area, on the east side of Valdez Island in early February.

The origin on any of the remains is still unknown. They also said something along the lines that they are not CSI and it may take some time to find the owners.

From the Sydney Morning Herald we get this bizarre incident. Well, at least it seems like a bizarre attack to me, I guess its not that bizarre in Cambodia where boys are taught to never piss off the little fish.

This one puffer looks livid

A Cambodian teenager was recovering in hospital after a puffer fish attacked him in the groin, local media reported on Tuesday.

The Khmer-language Koh Santepheap daily ran a picture of the unnamed 13-year-old in a hospital bed with heavy strapping around his testicles, saying he was lucky to be alive.

The paper quoted the boy’s father, Sok Ly, as saying the fish had become enraged when it was accidentally trapped in the boy’s net and, when it was freed, had attacked the boy’s scrotum.

Cambodian legend has it that the bite of the fish is even more dangerous than its poisonous spines, especially for boys, and Cambodian boys are traditionally advised not to swim in waters where the fish is common.

The victim, from Prek Pneuv commune outside Phnom Penh, was expected to recover from yesterday’s attack, the paper said, but the extent of the damage had yet to be determined.

A mexican Donkey is spending some time in the pokey for assaulting a man. I guess someone actually felt the donkey should be punished for breaking human laws. I wonder if they read the donkey his rights when he got arrested. Now does the donkey get a lawyer or does he simply represent himself. Can he put up some hay as bail?

Metro actually reported this story where the locals had this to say… “Around here, if someone commits a crime they are jailed,” Gomez said - “no matter who they are.”

The donkey’s owner is Mauro Gutierrez and the donkey inmate will be in his new accommodations in the jail until Mr. Guitierrez pays some medical bills to the donkey’s victim. Seems the donkey bit victim, Mr. Vazquez then kicked another man who came to his rescue.

The police in that region have jailed animals in the past including a bull that stole some corn and a dog that bit someone.

Seems Chiapas is an equal opportunity jailer treating everyone the same no matter what species you may be.

POLICE broke into a flat to check who lived there 42 years after its owner was reported missing - and found the mummified remains of the woman sitting in front of her TV.

Croatian police say Hedviga Golik, who was born in 1924, had apparently made herself a cuppa and sat down to watch her black-and-white television before she died.

Officers believe that would have been in 1966, when she was last seen by neighbours. They said one day she seemed to have just disappeared and they thought she had moved to the capital Zagreb.

But they found her remains in the tiny 13sq m flat after breaking in with bailiffs.

A police spokesman said: “So far we have no idea how it is possible that someone officially reported missing so long ago was not found before in the same apartment she used to live in.”

Some people are just too stupid to be criminals - Stupidity the redneck way - Tennessee. A man apparantly took that slogan “to protect and serve” to the extreme as he emptied his pockets in order to pass through a metal detector. He took out his weed and rolling papers from his pockets and placed them into the Sheriff’s bowl. Protect his weed they did, by confiscating it. The man may now have another court date. This may be a good thing since this man really can not afford to lose any more braincells.
Now if you are already going to court, meaning you did something stupid and got caught.. maybe, just maybe you should refrain from taking your dope to court with you, much less, handing the dope to the cop for safe keeping while going to your court appearance for your prior stupidity.

NEW YORK (CBS) ? There are about 45,000 cab drivers on the streets of New York City, but it’s those rude few that make a very lasting impression.

One driver was recently fined $1,000 and suspended for cursing.

CBS 2 HD has learned the details on what’s being done to make sure your next ride is a pleasant one.

Getting a cab ride in Gotham can be interesting to say the least. Just ask its residents.

“I think they drive like maniacs,” said Irene Bremis of Greenwich Village.

“More than once I feel like I have almost died because the driver is like, ‘Blah, blah, blah …’” Jackson Heights resident Carolyn Kaylor said.

“They come off with a real harsh attitude and you’re like let me just get to my location and leave,” Canarsie’s Jean Pyronneau said.

I guess with the ad printed on a condom, the advertiser gets a real bang for the buck! the instructions go as follows…  “Apply to weapon when on maneuvers.”

Actually, this probably is brilliant because I can’t believe anyone would forget the message nor the way it was delivered… just sick shit.

LONDON, May 14 (UPI) — The Royal Air Force is using instructions on the many uses of condoms as a tactic to lure young British men to sign up for the RAF Regiment.

A total of 20,000 prophylactics are being mailed in a recruitment drive, The Sun reports. They’re mounted on cards with the instruction “Apply to weapon when on maneuvers.”

Jennifer Sharpe, a 15-year-old from Dearborn, sold 17,328 boxes of Girl Scout cookies this year, which shatters her troop’s old record and is believed to be a national record, though Girl Scouts of the USA doesn’t track individual sales.

“It’s always been one of those goals I wanted to accomplish,” Sharpe said Wednesday.

So how crazy is this “get rich quick” story and how can anyone even believe they would get away with it? Well, it is crazy and the woman almost got away with it, as ridiculous as it sounds, except for a mistake she made. The point is she got caught not because someone actually investigated, she got caught because she was stupid enough to use someone else’s computer to type up her forgeries and not delete the BS letters when done.

This is some sick shit, no one ever investigated or even tried to contact a doctor to see if the story was in fact real!

State Social worker accused of faking cancer to steal from state and how did she get caught? her own stupidity. She typed one of her forgeries on someone else’s computer and did not delete it.

Every doctor’s name was made-up and all documents were forged. The woman since then has moved out of state and I gotta wonder if she will be allowed to get away with her cancer scam.

ARLINGTON — When a state social worker announced she had malignant brain tumors, she received $21,000 in paid leave, lots of time off from work, and extra sick days generously donated by co-workers pulling for her in her fight against a terrifying disease.

Turns out the tumors were only a sick ploy to steal from the state Department of Social and Health Services, prosecutors alleged Tuesday.

Sandra Dee Martinez, 40, never was diagnosed with brain cancer and instead faked letters from phony doctors to get paid sick leave, work half-days and land certain duties in the department, according to court documents.

She’s now charged with first-degree theft.

“She was fabricating a tragedy so she wouldn’t have to go to work,” Arlington Police Chief John Gray said. “She preyed on the generosity of her employer and co-workers.”

The former Mountlake Terrace woman worked out of the Smokey Point DSHS office. The Arlington police investigation turned up a scheme that went way beyond faking the sniffles to take a three-day weekend, Gray said.

Martinez was hired by the state as a social worker in October 2006, according to court records. Five months later she allegedly told her employer she had a brain tumor and began using medical leave and continued to get paid.
