donkey-jailed.jpgA mexican Donkey is spending some time in the pokey for assaulting a man. I guess someone actually felt the donkey should be punished for breaking human laws. I wonder if they read the donkey his rights when he got arrested. Now does the donkey get a lawyer or does he simply represent himself. Can he put up some hay as bail?

Metro actually reported this story where the locals had this to say… “Around here, if someone commits a crime they are jailed,” Gomez said - “no matter who they are.”

The donkey’s owner is Mauro Gutierrez and the donkey inmate will be in his new accommodations in the jail until Mr. Guitierrez pays some medical bills to the donkey’s victim. Seems the donkey bit victim, Mr. Vazquez then kicked another man who came to his rescue.

The police in that region have jailed animals in the past including a bull that stole some corn and a dog that bit someone.

Seems Chiapas is an equal opportunity jailer treating everyone the same no matter what species you may be.

Seems that Japan takes its beef ban a bit way to seriously these days, even when the beef is preserved in formaldehyde for many years and encased in plastic as art. Yep, this is that fine art piece that anyone would want as part of the collection called pickled cow, this is larger than one of his earlier pieces that was a pickled fish and seems to be up in a bar somewhere in the UK.

Yep, pickled cow may now be in a real pickle and need to be re-pickled to boot.

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — An Australian politician on Wednesday proposed designating a special day for residents to hunt and kill what he called one of the world’s most disgusting creatures: the poisonous cane toad.

australia-toad-whacking-day.jpgThe Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has said it backs the plan by Queensland state lawmaker Shane Knuth to launch “Toad Day Out,” but only if the creatures are killed in a humane way, such as euthanizing them in a freezer.

“Obviously we’re not idiots. We understand a lot people will be highly reluctant to fill their fridges and freezers with dying cane toads, but at the moment that is the only humane way that we can recommend,” said Michael Beatty, the society’s spokesman.

Those nutty animals… Now this is some crazy shit! I thought that Steve Erwin (The Crocodile Hunter) was one in a billion to be killed by the stingray. Obviously though these things are nothing to trifle with.

Stingray Kills Woman in Boat

This spotted eagle stingray flew out of the water in the Florida Keys and struck a woman riding in the boat, knocking her over and likely killing her on contact, according to a state official.

MARATHON, Fla. - A 75-pound stingray killed a Michigan woman this week when it flew out of the water and struck her face as she rode in a boat in the Florida Keys, officials said.

Angela Nellany didn’t admit that she tried to kill her estranged husband with a can of wasps. Friday, she pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon.

The Riverbank woman was articulate and polite, saying “yes, ma’am” and “I do understand” as she waived her right to a trial in Stanislaus County Superior Court. Judge Nancy Ashley handed down a two-year sentence that likely will keep the middle-age mother of two behind bars for six more months.

The resolution is a far cry from the attempted murder and solicitation to murder charge the district attorney’s office filed after Nellany was arrested one year ago, when she was accused of leaving a soda can full of wasps in her husband’s truck and then hiring a hit man to finish the job.

Deputy District Attorney Shawn Barlow said a plea deal is a good compromise, because 12 jurors could have found Nellany guilty of attempted murder, sending her to prison for seven years to life, or they could have concluded that the case was little more than a family dispute gone awry.

“I think there were equal risks on both sides,” he said.

Defense attorney Martin Baker declined to comment.

Problem with packs of wild and crazed dogs gives people living in Moscow some strange odds. It seems you are more likely to get attacked and bitten by a vicious crazed pup than you are getting mugged on the street. So if going to Moscow do like the locals and carry sausage in your bag in case attacked.

vicious dog attacks peopleIn any big city, crime is a concern, but the citizens of Moscow have a unique danger to dodge on a daily basis.

According to official statistics, last year there were about 20,000 cases of humans attacked by stray dogs; 8,000 of them serious enough to involve the police or requiring hospitalization.

This means that in Moscow you are much more likely to get bitten by a dog than be mugged.

Commuters have to grapple with packs of unwanted strays on a daily basis.

Can a Moose really be suicidal? maybe this moose was just either very clumsy or very unlucky… maybe a mix of both. Poor, Poor Moose. They call it a moose-icide! Watch out for moose jumping off bridges

Feb. 14, 2008, Falling moose nearly takes out Alaska trooper

By BETH BRAGG, McClatchy Newspapers

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Motorists have seen the highway signs that warn of falling rocks, and they’ve seen the ones that warn of moose crossing.

Now Howard Peterson of the Alaska State Troopers wonders if they need a new sign:

Watch for falling moose.

A swing-shift trooper based in Girdwood, Peterson was cruising the Seward Highway the night of Feb. 2 a couple miles north of McHugh Creek when something big and black fell from the sky, landing about 20 feet from his car.

“Falling rock!” he thought, ready to steer clear if it bounced onto the highway.

When the rock didn’t roll or shatter, Peterson’s brain came up with a crazy image:

“Falling moose?”

An adult moose, wandering rocky terrain more suitable to the Dall sheep that populate it, plunged to its death from the tall cliffs that hug a highway famous for its scenery and wildlife.

The animal landed on the side of the road just a few yards in front of Peterson, who figures it fell 150 feet, maybe farther. He snapped a couple of photos and called one of the charities that salvage road kill to tell them there was a moose available at Mile 113.

Then he started wondering what happened. Did the moose jump?

“How would you say it—moose-icide? He probably thought he was the only moose, with all those sheep around,” Peterson said.
